Victor Mayovanex, Director, began his mambo training under the direction of Wilton Beltre. Upon the untimely departure of his instructor from the mambo community in 1996, Victor accepted the challenge to take over Mr. Beltre dance school and company. Although Victor enjoyed being a part of this venture, he felt the group did not extended itself to expressing the essence he was after. After three years of directing Mr. Beltre's company, Victor decided to embark on his own exploration to take the art of mambo dancing to the highest level possible.
Upon its onset, Karisma Dance Company immediately captured the attention of the mambo community. The group is highly praised as being "the most elegant mambo Company" in the New York and New Jersey area. Karisma possesses a rare charm and appeal that was much needed in the mambo scene. It was this magnetism that lured the people to recognize Karisma as an esteemed professional dance company.
Under Victor's leadership, Karisma has performed is several on the most prestigious venues in New York City, including the Beacon Theater, the WaldorfAstoria, the Mariott Marquis and the United Nations. Karisma has also preformed as Los Premios ACE (the ACE Awards) in 2001 and to Hilary Clinton's Gala event in Washington, D.C. in 2002. In addition, the company has recently opened for artist like Grupo Niche, Tito Nieves, Jose Alberto "El Canario", Eddy Herrera and Sergio Vargas.
It is with an even present dedication to style and grace in their dancing which gives Karisma its name. With invitations to perform in the Dominican Republic, Canada and Italy, it is their goal to continue reaching as audience outside of the mambo community and establish Karisma as one of the finest international companies in Latin Dance. |
